Dean Scontras Announces Faith and Values Team:

Congressional Candidate Continues to Grow Broad Base of Support
PORTLAND - First District Congressional candidate Dean Scontras announced the formation of the Scontras for Congress Faith and Values Coalition today (listed below). The coalition includes more than 25 prominent religious and community leaders from across Maine supporting Scontras' bid to win the Republican nomination based in part on his strong belief in traditional conservative cultural values.

"I'm proud to announce the endorsements of these respected conservative leaders and I believe that it is indicative of the broad base of support I am earning from voters across the 1st Congressional District," said Scontras.

"Dean Scontras is a man who understands the important role a strong moral foundation has, both in building a family and in maintaining our nation," said Jeff Tarbox, pastor of New Life Church in Biddeford. "He has proven that he is willing to speak out and defend the conservative values that most Maine people live by and so few politicians seem able to speak about today."

"As a historian, Dean's candidacy reminds me of the words of President James Garfield," said Bob Emrich, pastor of the Plymouth Baptist Church and founder of The Maine Jeremiah Project. 'The people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature.' I know Dean to embody these high qualities and trust him to be capable of carrying them to Congress."

Scontras speaks frequently with Republican voters about the need to nominate a candidate who can unite the three pillars of the Republican Party: Fiscal Conservatives, Social Conservatives, and National Security Conservatives. As the only social conservative in the race for Maine's 1st Congressional District, Scontras provides a voice for many conservative voters who believe that both political parties often ignore the issues that are most important to them.

"Certainly people I speak with are concerned about their economic security and our national security; but with equal measure I hear people, especially those with children, express concerns about the direction in which our culture is headed. The ongoing effort to remove any mention of God from the public square is just one example of the organized attempts made by ultra-liberal special interest groups to change the culture of Maine and America. The incident at King Middle School, where the Portland School Committee made it a policy to dispense birth control pills to 11-year olds without telling their parents, is another. As a candidate I have spoken out about this alarming trend and as Maine's next Congressman I pledge to fight against it," concluded Scontras.

Senator Snowe, who I will be interning for begining on Wednesday, said today that she will oppose a filerbuster on Superme Court Nominee, Sam Alito. She stopped short of actually supporting him. I think she see's that Judge Alito, is a fair judge, that will approach each case with an open mind.

Folks, on Friday I think you will be able to call Judge Alito Justice Sam Alito!

Good Job Judge Alito, and thank you Senator Snowe for not allowing Democracts to have the last straw and deraill this nominee's appointment to the superme court.

Specter has already said he is voting YES on Alito saying "He was more fourthcoming than John Roberts, and he isn't voting for Alito just becuase of his party."

The American Bar association the other day issued their take on Judge Sam Alito. Enough has been said he was voted well qualified by the ABA!

Done deal he's almost certain to get confirmed now..

democracy are launching attacks on this guy that don't really need to be launched.. I think people can expect to see a different Judge Alito than what they think..There going to see another Judge John Roberts.

Attacks by liberals, will only help the President and this country! :)

On Monday the nomination hearings for Judge Sam Alito Will begin. I think that Alito is a good choice to serve on the court. I don't believe from what I have seen that he will force his personal views upon anyone. Sure, Alito is a conservative judge but this should not apply heavily. It's worth a lot when the most liberal newspapers, give praise to such a man. The left is scared that Alito will be confirmed.

Senator Collins and Snowe are left to make up their own minds. They should not listen to any outside special interest groups and should make an informed decision based on Judge Alito's record and experience as both a lawyer and judge.

President Bush should feel proud that he has nominated, such a respected man that will up hold the constitution and won't actively try to make law from the bench. Because yes, the President is allowed to listen in on suspected terriorts, and no the Constitution does not protect the right to an abortion.

Mr. Alito is the man to replace Sandra Day O'Connor!

He has got a great Judicial Philosophy and will not use the court for political gain!

Academic Freedom: Republican Support

This past week I submitted to the USM Student Senate a resolution entitled the Academic Bill of Rights. The History of the Academic Freedom Movement is the work of David Horowitz and the crew of www.studentsforacademicfreedom.org .

This movement while it may seem like something that is not needed I am here to tell you that we need this. College's and universities from across the country, have decided that Conservatives are not welcome on campus and therefore believe they can discriminate against those that have a non-liberal viewpoint.

Last Year I was one of 12 students to testify in favor of this bill at the legislature. Student told their stories how they were graded down or called names just because of their political views.

This bill simply reaffirms that the University is a place where all ideas are to be welcoming. The first thing this bill calls for is that papers are to be graded based on their reasoned answered to the subject and not to any correct political ideology. The Second thing it requires is that the freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and freedom of conscious of students and student organizations cannot be infringed upon by campus administrations that do not agree with a view being advocated by a student or student organization. The last thing it will ensure is that funding for student organizations is based only on that organizations activism and adherence to campus guidelines, not the issues or ideology it advances.

A lot of people say the above things are not needed. I say this is not the case, It does an injustice to those that despite in Augusta and those that may suffer in silence. One student who experiences discrimination based on their personal convictions is one too many.

We need to take this head on. USM Has the chance to set the record and make great strides towards Academic Freedom.

I am ashamed of the Democrats and one Republican that voted against this it just shows that they talk the talk but don't walk the walk.

They say they are for equal protections for all, but when it come to protecting how a person thinks and how a person wants to get their point out they hide and vote against it! This is bad just bad!

Thankfully the Maine GOP knows this is needed, and is fully backing this! And I am proud to say we are getting our message out. Let's hope that one Republican comes out in favor of this sometime.

I have seen a lot the last couple of weeks. I have come to clear decision that I think shows why I am voting YES on 1.

I don’t think making gays and lesbians a special class will solve the problems, in fact I think it will create more problems for businesses that feel the need to discriminate in an effort to protect the view of their business environment.

I point to a Christian Bookstore owner. These people in most cases want to protect the view of their business and hiring a Transgender person would be not only against their beliefs but also against the beliefs of their patrons. It’s not bigotry to want to protect your business environment based on your biblical beliefs on homosexuality.

Lastly the future of Maine is in the hands of voters. I believe that we are going to go down two paths. The first being that of YES if the yes side comes through all people will continue to have the same protections under the law. You cannot name me a right that a gay person doesn’t have. They are able to get and hold jobs. Some are very wealthy indeed they don’t fit the classification of a minority class.

If the no side comes through, I feel sorry for this state. I feel this state will be going down a slippery slope that will lead to gay marriages in Maine. I want to protect the look of Maine. If you want equality for all you want gay marriages just come out and say it please!

Maine people simply are not evil gay hatters. I have lived in Maine all of my life. I have never seen anyone Discriminate. In the cases that I have seen it’s discrimination from the folks that represent the No Side.

Such as that against the Boy Scouts of America, and The Salvation Army. It’s unfortunate that we have sunk low enough to tell the Boy Scouts of America they can’t use the public schools to get their message of helping young boys with their knot skills, and how to save people’s lives. They are just trying to protect the kids.

In other news I am going to New Jeresey next weekend to worker on the Forrester Campigan. A Republican Governor (From what I gather pro-choice). But what matters in New Engaland is we need to elect Republicans to take over. The taxes are at an all time high, and we have multiple programs that we don't need. We need DHHS to have changes and we need to audit government programs and money..

Who ever wins the Maine (Republican) nomination will need to do the following:

1.) A desire to listen the people of this fine state
2.) Lower Taxes
3.) Get rid of state programs that have flopped (hmm..Dirgo Health, Kings Laptop thing -Waste of space and money)
4.) Changes to education funding at all levels (Somethings screwed up when we have students dropping out of school because they can't afford to go to school)...

I could care less as of right now! If its Peter Mills fine, If its Chandler fine,....But Democracts, we can't have any more state under them!! Terriable...They are terriable..Run this state to the ground like Clinton did when he was president.

Protect Marriage and common sense!

This is another attempt by the Baldy administration to introduce gay marriages. I remind you that in Vermont they had this law before they had gay marriages. Amazing.. How he would sneak this in..Though until Maine has a Republican governor things will never be the same...Never. The No side is so loud yet so useless they never really do win!
